Canada's first CRI (Concours de Reining Internationale) was held at Meaford, Ontario, on July 16. The class, hosted by Y Not Farms, was a tremendous success. Seven Canadian riders accepted the challenge to compete for the two positions to represent Canada at the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) World Reining Masters Finals presented by NetJets, to be held at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, December 2, 2004.

Cody Sapergia, riding Mega Ditto, owned by Sally Broten of River Falls, Wisconsin, seized first place with a score of 221. Sapergia won $1,400 to cinch one of the two positions for Canada. Guy Robertson of Manitoba, riding Freeway Frank owned by Lorris Vatnsdal of Roseau, Minnesota, placed second with a score of 219 to earn $1,100. Third place went to Sophie Laverdiere riding the Raynald Laverdiere entry, Smart Little Tori, with a score of 218. Laverdiere took home $850 for third place.

Canadian rider Francois Gauthier, of Lucama, North Carolina, earned fourth, fifth and sixth place with Its All About Cash, owned by Equine Plus; Little Patrasha Gump, owned by Harold Lepler; and Boggierima, owned by Gauthier. Gauthier's earnings for the three placings totaled $1,350, which secured second place in monies earned and the right to ride for Canada at the FEI World Reining Masters Finals.

Don Quintana, also owned by Gauthier and ridden by Shawna Sapergia took the final placing to earn $300.

Since this is the only CRI hosted in Canada this year, these are the final results for the Canadian riders who will represent Canada at the FEI World Reining Masters Finals, which will be held in conjunction with the 2004 NRHA Futurity & Championship Show, November 25 - December 4. The FEI World Reining Masters Finals is sponsored by Classic S Ranch, NRHA, Reining Horse Sports Foundation (RHSF), and the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA).
