Once again the Derby Spotlight Sale proved to be a great success.  The industry’s top breeders and trainers consigned an outstanding group of broodmares, yearlings, two-and three-year old futurity prospects and finished reining horses.  Prior to the sale, the pleasant Champagne Brunch offered in Barn 6 brought everyone together as the consignments were presented in the Sale demonstration.

Inwhizable, a 1996 sorrel stallion by Topsail Whiz and out of Angels Rosie consigned by McCutcheon/Hamilton commanded the top price of $95,000 at the 2003 Derby Spotlight Sale.  Scott and Kathy McCutcheon purchased Hamilton’s share of the attractive stallion.  Scott and Inwhizable were members of the 2002 World Equestrian Games (WEG) Gold Medal Team USA.  Inwhizable has more than $34,000 in NRHA earnings.

“It took me a long time to convince Dean Latimer of the Inwhizable Partnership, previous owners, to sell him to us and now I am just thrilled to have him all to ourselves,” said Scott McCutcheon.  “He is a great athlete and his first foals, who arrived in 2001, are just beautiful babies.” With tears in her eyes and hugs for Inwhizable, Kathy was simply thrilled with the buy.  “This is such a special horse for us and he’s been so generous.  I am so happy he is coming back home.”

Triple X Starlight, a 2001 stallion by Seven X Starlight and out of Savannah Hickory, an own daughter of Docs Hickory, was the second highest selling horse.  Consigned by Dell Hendricks and purchased by Debra Sloan, the two-year-old sorrel colt brought $19,000.

In this year’s edition of the Derby Spotlight Sale presented by the National Reining Horse Association, forty-six horses were consigned.  There were ten broodmares representing NRHA superstars such as Million Dollar Sires Smart Chic Olena, Topsail Cody and Topsail Whiz.  Several were in foal to prestigious such prestigious stallions as multiple NRHA World Champion Nu Chex To Cash and NRHA Futurity Champion Mr Melody Jac.  Other winning pedigrees represented include Tangys Classy Peppy, Gallo Del Cielo, Master Boot Jac, Bueno Chex and Doc Tom Tucker.

Fifteen two-year-olds representing the likes of Three Million Dollar Sire Hollywood Dun It, NRHA Million Dollar Sire Shining Spark, Gallo Del Cielo, Lil Ruf Peppy and Steady Tradition were just part of the quality individuals that could reach the winner’s circle at the 2004 NRHA Futurity.  Other potential super stars include the sons and daughters of Acres Of Red, Dusty Dry Tivio, Bay Starlite, Seven X Starlight, Lucky Little Lena, Grays Starlight, Freckles Boon, Like A Diamond and Dual Jazz.  Five yearling prospects strolled through the sale pen and they included the get of Chic Please, Nu Chex To Cash, Hollywood Eighty Six, Elans Play Boy and Dun It With A Twist.
