Reggio
Emilia, May 10th 2009 – The first go round of the NRHA approved Italian Reining
Horse Association Derby is set to start on Tuesday, May 12th, in Reggio Emilia.
Marking the 2009 edition of the IRHA Derby, competition open to four, five and
six-year-old horses, is the number of unprecedented entries. Beyond all expectations,
261 entries are registered in the Open Derby divisions and 243 are entered in
the Non Pro divisions, making this the largest special event, as far as number
of participants is concerned, ever held in Europe.
A full-slate of NRHA
approved ancillary classes will also be offered during the IRHA Derby & Championship
Show, held on May 12-16, raising the total entries to 800.
“We are very
proud to be able to announce such a high number of competitors registered in this
event”, said IRHA President, Roberto Cuoghi. “Considering the difficult moment
the economy on a worldwide level is going through at this time, it goes without
saying that the reining industry is in great shape and consistently growing. I
am also certain that the level of competition that will be showcased here in Reggio
Emilia will equal the high number of entries and I would like to thank all those
that have made this possible; the riders, the owners and the reining enthusiasts”.
The
IRHA Derby is held during the annual horse show, the ‘Salone del Cavallo Americano’,
hosted on the premises of the Reggio Emilia Fairgrounds.
