The Swedish Reining Horse Association (SRHA) has just announced it's new national team structure. A team of seven leading riders will be picked by SRHA, as well as a list of challengers.

Rick LeMay
The veteran who tops all swedish lists, and who has had great year in 2005. During the year Rick has competed in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany. "Rick is only getting better", says SRHA chairman Monica Widh who will coach the national team together with Håkan Forsström in the near future.

Peter Ljungberg
Second on the list is Peter Ljungberg who also had a fantastic year. In september he visited Italy together with Anna Lööf for the WEG qualifications. A 5th place on borrowed horses is nothing short of spectacular. Peter also finished 8th in the World Reining Masters Final on " Wheeling Eldorado", and shared 8th place in the Open Division on the same horse.

Anders Josefsson
Anders Josefsson is number three on the list, and a familiar name in Swedish Reining. This year he had a good ride at Linköping Horse Show against several of Europes best. Before this he also did well in France.

Fredrik Thompson
Without doubt the rider with the most big show experience is Fredrik Thompson. Born and raised in Sweden, but a US resident since several years. Fredrik rides several horses in the US futurities, and is a very consistent rider with scores of 72-73. Fredrik has also done very well at several major US shows and was 2003 reserve World Champion AQHA.

Those are the riders that are to represent Sweden in the 2006 World Championships in Aachen. Reserves are: Waldemar Wass, Josefine Blomquist and Johan Svensson.

Challengers
The challenger list is not yet ready. "Since horse are horses, we need to make sure that the riders we pick have several horses to chose from" the team coaches say. "Plus that they need to have international experience" "Riders with consistent scores in 2005, might become even better in 2006. Anything can happen before Aachen"

Plans for 2006
In the new structure the team-members are to elect a spokesperson, that will express team views and work together with the coaches. Plans are made for a total of three team meetings during which the pre World Championship show schedule is to be decided. "We also have plans to find a pro-rider form abroad who can train the team, and coach us at the shows", says Monica and Håkan. "This is a very important issue, and we are having discussions with two well known trainers, but nothing is certain yet."
