The fourth Czech Quarter Horse Association Show (AQHA approved) was hosted on Saturday, June 11 at the Nova Amerika facility in Zalonov. Held on a yearly basis, the CZQHA Show is one of the most successful Czech western riding shows, with reining playing a very important role.

This year the number of entries reached 150 horse and rider combinatons, which was a considerable increase comparing to 130 in 2004 and 109 in 2003. This AQHA show attracted competitors not only from Czech Republic but also from Germany. They were judged by Carl McCuistion from Wilson, Oklahoma. He is an NRHA Open and Limited Open finalist and AQHA World Champion and Reserve Champion in Junior and Senior Working Cow Horse.

The show started with a full slate of halter classes which, as always, attracted a lot of horses. Aged Mares was the largest class with 15 horses entered. Peppy Zancy Delmaso and Barbora Konopaskova won the Grand Champion title. Another big class was the Western Pleasure Open with also 15 horses. The first place went to Irena Machalikova riding Peppy Golden Scooter.

A total of 33 horse and rider combinations were nominated in 4 reining classes. Senior reining was certainly the highlight of the whole CZQHA Show. The top Czech reiners – Irena Machalikova, Klara Salkova and Ivan Cernoch were present and the winner was to be determined between them.

Irena Machalikova riding a 6-year-old stallion April Doc Olena (Top Olena Dream x Tea Quackers) owned by Vladimir Mandak won the class showing a nice set of spins and smooth circles. A very correct run resulted in a score of 70,5. It was a second win for Irena and April at the CZQHA Show. Last year they earned a first place in Junior reining.

Second place went to Ivan Cernoch and Littles First. The pair also scored 70,5 but the number of penalty points was decisive in the placings. Ivan had a very good start with good spins and circles well under control. Problems started with rundowns and stops – lack of control was clearly visible.

Last year Klara Salkova aboard Smart Chiconita (Smart Chic Olena x One More Memory) won the Senior reining with a score of 70. On Saturday they repeated the score, but it was certainly a better run than in 2004. Klara and her 8-year-old bay stallion did big three last stops of the pattern 10. By far the best sliding stops of the whole show. The crowed cheered when the dirt was flying around. Everything was decided with the first out of four stops, which wasn’t as good as the others, and an underspin. Finnally the pair finished third.

Out of 14 horse and rider combinations Karel Barotek riding Smart Maky Lena (Modelena Tee x Streakin Little) won the Junior reining with a good 69,5. It was a big success for Karel, whose first child, Karel Jr., was born in March. Maybe in few years Czech reining will have a new star? The second place with 68,5 went to Irena Machalikova aboard Peppy Joy Choice. Karel Kubata riding A Hollywood Sweetie came third with a score of 66.

In Amateur reining Jaroslav Vilgos on Dream Of Dry Doc scored 67,5 to earn the first place. Lucie Havrankova riding A Hollywood Imprint came second and Monika Julinova on Miss Bobby Jac Scoot was third.

Pavel Orel was very successful at the “Celadna Ride & Slide 2005” three weeks ago. At the CZQHA Show he won the reining Youth riding Pretty Miss Starbuck (Smart Starbuck x Miss Dee Step) and scoring 65,5. The second place went to Marketa Zezulkova and Smart Maky Lena. Regina Prochazkova and Skippers King Jr finished third.

At the end of the show the 2004 High Point Horse titles were awarded. In Senior reining the award went to Smart Chiconita and Klara Salkova, in Amateur reining to Bueno Chex Lady and Petr Julina, in Junior reining to April Doc Olena and Irena Machalikova and in reining Youth to Doc Toni Tee and Marketa Zezulkova.
